The Rising Stars Piano Series was founded in 2003 by SCC board member and pianist, Liliane Questel, a graduate of the Brussels Conservatory and the Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory under the guidance of Leon Fleisher . The series mission focuses on performance opportunities primarily for participants and alumni of Pianofest of the Hamptons. These highly talented pianists attract a loyal following. The Tenth Anniversary Season in 2013 celebrated some of those musicians who by then were not “Rising Stars” anymore but celebrated performers.

HunterNoackPosterOur fall season was concluded by fascinating Hunter Noack on November 14 and it was a remarkable performance that will surely linger in the hearts of those who were there. A Pianofest alumnus, Hunter is a true artist in a renaissance sense of the word: a composer for film and theater, an improviser and a champion of new music. With his program "Boyhood" Hunter took us on an intense and surreal musical journey comprised of short works by Schumann, Say, Rzewski, Cage, Ravel, Liszt, Debussy, J.S. Bach & Chopin. In asking the audience not to applaud until the end of the program, Hunter created an intimate atmosphere of profound reflection on the music he played. He read four poems before different style of each composers. Not a cough or a move was heard from the audience. Total absorption, admiration and a spontaneous ovation erupted this transfigurative performance after the last note of Chopin's Third Scherzo. No one left nor moved as Hunter played a Rachmaninov Etude-Tableau as an encore and even then, listeners who usually are in a hurry, took their time to get to the Levitas Gallery to meet and talk to this multi-talented artist who must come back to Rising Stars!

The beloved Anderson & Roe Piano Duo will start the Spring Series on April 2, 2016 with a delectable program not to be missed.  –Liliane Questel
